A DISTANT LIGHT
When I touched Sugagawa-san's energy, the first thing I felt was a clear wind, one that sweeps away the dust and washes everything clean.

Taku Sugagawa, a war correspondent. Thick silver strokes spiral upward with a force somewhere between feathers and flames, and at their center rests a single circle. Lit from the front, the silver glints with a clear, pure light; lit from behind, the circle radiates moonlike light, and the canvas fills with blue-violet and gold.

He goes of his own will to any place, and receives, without turning away, the voices of the people who live there. His presence was sharp as silver wings, and deeply warm.
The spiraling silver lines are the shape of a strength that rises again and again. Even after a fall, he faces forward and walks on, and each step becomes a path of light.

When light comes from behind, the circle at the center begins to glow quietly like the moon. From a place made pure, new life is born. I believe this painting is a light of rebirth.
This painting will soon set out for a faraway place. May it carry, to the people it meets there, the courage to rise once more. May it shine quietly, far away.
